I can see why people want to call out Hillary to support Ned vociferously... Schumer too... and Dodd... and Kerry... These are Senators from contiguous states that have operational knowledge and clout in those areas. They can help drive turnout and affect the votes of fence-sitters in in Connecticut.
I can see calling out Wyden... and Reid... because Joe is using their supposed promises of committee assignments as a foundation in his campaign.
But Warner? He supports Ned. More importantly, the guy just threw his support (financial and vocal) behind Jim Webb's campaign (and anemic fund-raising effort) in a big way. And in a way that matters, since he was GOVERNOR OF VIRGINIA. I am willing to risk getting trolled to call out this suicidal tactic. I'm not saying anyone should vote for Warner for President, but the parochial obsession with Ned is a symptom of a larger problem that will - if left unchecked - lead to a permanent minority status for progressives.
More below.
All politics is local. Warner helped get Kaine elected. He is turning Virginia Blue. And, as Kossacks have amply demonstrated, George Felix "Noose and Flag" Allen is vulnerable. Why can't the James Dobson's of the progressive side focus on the pols who matter to the Lamont-Lieberman race (Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Ron Wyden)? And lay off Warner until it matters. Right now, calling out Warner is an act of kossack vanity that diverts him from his main job... getting Jim Webb elected to the U.S. Senate.
Vanity and the confusion of principles with strategic stupidity doomed Bush. Let's not make the same mistake.
(Sorry to make this a diary rather than a comment, but I think it is important that we not lose the forrest for the trees.)
[Update] There is a point made in the comments that I agree with... why not ask the same of Webb? He is in the position of actually asking for Joe's committee assignments if he wins. My point is that asking Warner the question is really irrelevant right now... even less relevant than asking Webb who can have some influence on Joe if he wins. And, in fact, I think that this is counter-productive.
